The New Haven has been a sanctuary for us as the water temps peaked over the last few weeks. Lately we have had great dry fly action all over the Bristol and above areas. We have also run onto a few large fish, over 16" in some pretty small water. I guess the fish, like the fisherman, retreat to the upper reaches when it gets warm. Since the rain, the water came up and the temps went down. I still suggest working a golden stone nymph when the water is up in the pocket freestone water. Otherwise, I like the dry-dropper rig. Had some success with clients with a small yellow stimulator(#14-#16) with a disco midge larva underneath when the water was clear. I have been working hopper-dropper with lots of success and a fair amount of that on my hopper. Terrestrials are working all over too. Look for the areas where grass and logs hang over, there may be a eager trout waiting to sip a easy meal.
