With the very mild temperatures and lack of additional precipitation conditions on the creek are ideal. We have had reports of crowds in some areas, but with the amount of quality water within a few miles of Middlebury, you can be sure to find stretches to yourself. I have had reports of people catching fish from morning to late afternoon this weekend. While most reported nymphs working a few were taken on streamers. We have scaled back our fly fishing display for the winter, but rest assured, that everything you need is still at the shop, just packed into a tighter area.

The New Haven is running lower right now, but as off the last few days has been fishing lights out! I again had Dog Team all to myself over the last few times I've been there and was able to catch numerous fish on small baetis emergers and caddis pupa, with an occasional fish going for my lead prince or copper john, which was in the #12 range most of the time. A few days ago I had fish going crazy for my streamer, chasing it all over the place, but now with the water lower, they seemed to be much more interest in piking things out of the drift.

The fishing on the Midd is pretty technical right now. Withe the low clear water, make sure to take care approaching the water. I saw a 18 plus inch Brown in about 18 inches of water yesterday. I watched him for a bit, but as I slipped moving closer it spooked. I would say throughout the weekend, to use lighter tippets or fluorocarbon tippet with the current water conditions. If fishing streamers, tone it down just a bit, with either smaller sizes or natural colors, or both. Lake longer casts and be strategical about where you will stand, who your presenting the flies.
