Not much new to report here. The fishing has been great on the NH all summer. The higher up the better. Bristol has been suburb. Water is very low, so I suggest light tippets, and fluoro. Dog team will be good, as fish move from the Creek in. Enjoy some of the dry fly,(lots of baetis) opportunities. Downsizing is the key here. Small flies, light tippets, even light rods. We personally, have had some great guided trips on the New Haven recently, and we would really like to show you some great, low pressure fishing.

Spent yesterday evening on the NH. Several fish were rising a;long the stretch I fished. Even with the Tea colored water I'll call it the middle section of the river. Eventually a strong little green stonefly hatch started. Bring even more fish to the surface. I stood back from several pools and watched before I stepped in. Even if the water is off color, being sneaky helps. It allowed me to see the feeding lanes for both dries and nymphs better. Caught 2 nice rainbows bigger then 16" on our Rubber Leg Golden Stone Nymphs #8. This is a great time to be using a Dry Dropper rig.

Like many of Addison County streams the best fishing on the lower sections will be in the early morning this week. The evening will offer some decent options but it will still be warm and the fish may not become active until after dark. Also being mindful of the temps on fish you are trying to catch and release will probably keep you off the lower sections. Bristol would be where the temps will e more reasonable and the fish will be more active for more of the day. It's a great time to do some dry fly fishing in the cooler sections of the mountains.

I recently found out from New Haven River Stewart, Pete Dimenico that The New Haven River is 58 miles long, with watershed that drains an area twice that. So that leaves plenty of water for everyone to fish. Also plenty of water in the mountains for us to enjoy on days when the lower section in to warm. I have had some great luck around Bristol, even a couple fish bigger the 16 inches. There are so many bugs coming off in that area, that it's hard to choose. But luckily, most things that are presented well, will catch fish. Lighter tippets and leaders are suggested.

The New Haven has fished well top to bottom as of late. I've spent sometime around Bristol recently and a rainy day at Dog Team. The group landed almost 20 fish at Dog Team that day, and not one other person there, got to love the rain. Most were stockers but a few nice hold overs, and one monster that snapped a buddy off. Seen plenty of rising fish on the New Haven lately. I have been running double dries to those fish and picking up most on midge patterns in those situations. But I am still successfully nymphing 80% of the time.
