New Haven River
Submitted by Jesse on Sat, 08/21/2010 - 12:43pmWe have still be working the areas close to Bristol in hopes of staying in cooler water. The dry fly fishing has been great in the pocket water. We have also seen a few adult mothra sized Goldens buzzing around still. I've been enjoying midging in this area. Though just about any well presented fly will produce. Once I again I do think flourocarbon is a great choice for this time of the year. We have seen a few big boys throughout these areas, so giving yourself every advantage helps, because I have been recently surprised by where I have caught large fish this last week.

Submitted by Jesse on Sat, 07/31/2010 - 1:46pmThe New Haven has been a sanctuary for us as the water temps peaked over the last few weeks. Lately we have had great dry fly action all over the Bristol and above areas. We have also run onto a few large fish, over 16" in some pretty small water. I guess the fish, like the fisherman, retreat to the upper reaches when it gets warm. Since the rain, the water came up and the temps went down. I still suggest working a golden stone nymph when the water is up in the pocket freestone water. Otherwise, I like the dry-dropper rig.

Submitted by Jesse on Sat, 07/17/2010 - 3:16pmWe have been spending time on the New Haven around Bristol. Exploring areas in between access points. I have had some good success with clients in this area. Getting on the water early seems to be the key. Allowing ourselves to fish the water when it is still in the low 60's. Because of low and clear situations we have been using some flourocarbon, and on back to back days, one with flouro and one without, the proof was in the production. It the current conditions and the fall lows, it is well worth the additional money. Give it a try, I think you will agree.
Upper New Haven - 10/19
Submitted by admin on Mon, 10/19/2009 - 4:03pmWow, what a beautiful time of the year to be on the upper New Haven. Fall colors of leaves and Brookies! Try a light Dry-Dropper rig. Parachute Adams with a small Hare's ear nymph will work well. Get out and enjoy while you still can!
